A series of patterns made in five styles: abstract, character, geometric, minimalist, and typography. All patterns are square and can be scaled within a shape.
Designed for a Principles of Communication Design course with Professor Ahmed Fadaam to learn seamless, repeated pattern creation.
Made in Adobe Illustrator.

The abstract pattern evolved from sketches (see below). I digitized the shapes I sketched, moved them around, and changed their colors to create an energetic yet cohesive look.

For my minimalist pattern, I wanted to create something appropriate to the fall season. While walking around and observing the world (a method Professor Fadaam recommended to gain inspiration), I noticed the many leaf varieties that had fallen. I used their shapes to make this pattern, so it is a reflection of Elon in October.

The idea for the character pattern was inspired by a mini fake aquarium I had in my childhood bedroom. I loved watching the fish move around and often imagined they were going about their lives. I took this opportunity to recreate some of the fish, placing them in the pattern as if they were "swimming" around the aquarium.

This geometric pattern developed from manipulating triangles in Illustrator. I did not love any of my sketches, so I lined up large triangles and used smaller triangles to visually break apart the large ones until I landed on the shaded diamond pattern. I added multiple colors to create the perception of an hourglass and to give the pattern contrast.

For my typography pattern, I wanted something simple yet elegant. I liked the look of a cursive "L" and decided to connect the end loops to other Ls. It was more challenging than I thought it would be, but using the repeat function and some manual adjustment I was able to connect the ends. I imagine the pattern being used on invitations, wallpaper, and other statement pieces.
